Monday, July 26.

The business of the House yesterday was chiefly comprised hi discussing the Estimates. Those of a large number of departments are being passed, without any material restriction, beyond the amounts struck out on the motion of Ministers, including £1070 for Weather Reporting, and £2700 for Auditing County Council and Road Board Accounts.

On the Education Vote of £217,000, Mr. Rolleston moved a reduction of £32,000, to be secured by economy on the - part of the Boards, and the abolition, of ' library grants. Mr. McCanghon moved to reduce the vote to £50,000. A long and unfinished debate ensued on the .general education system of the colony.
