Thursday, July 15.. Mr. Bryce introduced the Native Prisoners Bui, sayiug that he would ask the House to pass it through the next day. The Education Reserves Bill (Mr. Holies ton), and the Wanganui River Conservators Board Grant Bill (Mr. Ballance) were introduced, and a number of Local Bills tead a second time. The' Hospital and Charitable Aid Endowment BUI was read a second time, after a short debate. The Otago Harbor Board Empowering Bill, in Committee, occupied the remainder of the sitting.

Friday, July 18. In the House of Representatives to-day an Imprest, Supply BUI for £250,000, was passed through all its stages. Mn .Bryce. moved the second, reading of the Native Prisoners Trial' 8i11,' .. The. Native Minister stated that if the prisoners were tried for their technical offence of trespass, they would only receive very light sentences, and to allow them to return to the district in a body would imperil the peace of the country. Before the House met again next session, he hoped the difficulty would be at an end, and the district settled by hundreds of people. Major Te Wlieoro opposed the Bill. Mr. Downie Stewart urged that the Bill was' ultra vires, as it proposed to suspend the right of Habeas Corpus, which was an Imperial Statute. Mr: Tomoana strongly opposed the Bill, as did also Mr. Turnbull. The debate was interrupted by the adjournment. The Legislative Council, by 29 to 1, rejeo^ed Mr. Peacock's motion to give up then* honorarium.
