Wellington, Tuesday night. At the Supreme Court, the second jury empanelled to try John Wilson for indecent assault, was locked up all night, and this morning returned a verdict of not guilty. At the meeting to-day of the Hutt County Council it was intimated that at the expiration of nine months the highway and local boards within the county would be done away with. Christchuuch, Tuesday night. Great dissatisfaction exists amongst the railway employees at the intended reduction of wages. Two meetings were held yesterday, and a petition was ; dopted praying the House to re-consider the matter
Auckland, Tuesday night. The trial of Coombes, for embracery, was commenced this morning.
Dunedin, Tuesday night.
A London telegram, dated 3rd July, states that Hanlon, the Canadian rower, is dangerously ill from gastric fever, and fears are entertained of the result. The cause is attributed to his rowing in a recent regatta at Rhode Island against the directions of his medical adviser.
Kuhara, Tuesday night.
The bodies of the two men who were entombed in the shaft have been recovered after a most hazardous work.
