NORMANBY SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

A. meeting of the above committee was held on Friday evening. Present — Messrs. Quin (chairman), Gibson, McDonald, Richardson, and Sisley. The business of the meeting was to arrange for passing the work of painting the school house, which has just been finished by Mr. Smythe, of Hawera, which was done. Mr. Hill, the teacher, being present, a conversation ensued as to the necessity of getting several small improvements made about the school-house and play-ground, but which the committee, owing to the very trifling amount of cash that is generally at their disposal, felt themselves unable to effect, and it was feared that the proposed improvements would fall through. One of the members, fortunately, started the idea of a public lecture being given by the teacher at an early date, for the purpose of raising the necessary funds for the requirements stated, and the committee feltinuch pleasure in finding that Mr. Hill at once, without any hesitation, fell in with their views, and consented to give a lecture. I am sure that such an exertion on the teacher's part will be warmly responded to by all in Normanby ; and our thanks are certainly due to him for his kindness in coming forward for the benefit of the educational interests of the township. [We have to express our surprise that no intimation of the meeting was given to us, and we have to thank the secretary (Mr. Wreford) for the above particulars. "We are desirous of being present at every meeting held in Normanby, and we therefore trust that we shall receive notice iv future. If the local bodies would hold their meetings on any other nights but Tuesdays or Fridays, they would be suiting our convenience, as it is very difficult to get to meetings or entertainments on those two nights. — Ed. Stab.]
