PARLIAMENTARY NEWS.
(per united press association.)
Wellington, Friday night.
In the House of Representatives to-day, Sir William Fox gave notice that he would move that the Education Act be amended, so as to allow of Bible reading in public schools, subject to the time table and conscience clause.
In reply to questions, it was stated that the Government did not intend to iurpose an import duty on maize. The Government were considering the propriety of abolishing " Hansard." A bill to enable high school reserves to -be leased would be introduced ; but the Government quite recognised that education reserves must not stand in the way of the progress of settlement. The Government would consider it a great misfortune to see deferred payment selectors turned off their allotments, and would consider their interests as far us the law and the public interest would permit. The Election Petitions and Pharmacy Bills were read a third time and passed.
Mi\ Hamlin made an explanation confirming Mr. Bryce's previous statement, that there was no abandoned road on the Waimate Plaius.
