AUSTRALIAN NEWS.

[Rbtjt£r's Special to Stab.]

Melbourne, Tuesday.

A cargo of 850 tons of sugar, per barque Bato Baßsi, from Tjitatjnp, Java, for Melbourne, which got stranded on the Westera Australian coast, is a total loss.

The Sugar Company has reduced its prices from 20s to 40s all round.

In the Legislative Assembly last night, the Bill providing for payment of members was read a second time, on a division, by 138 to 24. The measure provided that payment of members shall not be limited to one session.
