TOWN BOARD FOR NORMANBY.
After the meeting in reference to the Town Hall and Institute came to a close, Mr. Gibson "brought the subject of a Town Board before the meeting. He said that it was an unfortunate tim to bring the matter forward, as the Government talked of knocking off the subsidies. But what were they to do ? A large sum had been already spent by a few of them in keeping the road to Mr. McGregor's hotel in order ; but they could not continue to do that always. In answer to Mr. Quin, Mr. Robson said that it a Town Board were formed, the rates raised within the boundaries could be spent there, instead of going to the Road Board.
Mr. Quin asked whether it would not be more desirable to join Hawera informing a municipality, than to form a Town Board ?
The Chairman thought not. A conversational discussion then took place, and it was eventually decided that the consideration of the matter should be deferred until some other occasion.
