All the Ministers of the new Cabinet, with the exception of Sir William Vernon Harcourt, Home Secretary, who are memb rs of the House of Commons, have now been re-elected to their respective seats.

The Daily News states that the English Cabinet has issued a circular despatch to the Great Powers inviting them to cooperate with the British Government in enforcing a strict execution of the Treaty of Berlin where the same has been so far unfulfilled in regard to international reforms in Turkey, and the rectification of the Turko-Greek frontier.

The Channel Squadron has returned from its cruise in search of the missing training-ship Atalanta. The mission has proved to be fruitless. The University of Glasgow has conierred an honorary degree upon the Hon. Thomas Mcllwraith, Colonial Secretary of Queensland, now on a visit to this country. The Hon. Robert Lowe has been raised to the Peerage.

A despatch from the Indian Government has been published, which states that the cost of the Afghan war will probably exceed the estimate by at least £4,000,000.

The Right Hon. G. L. Goschen proceeds to Csnstantinople as Special Ambassador to the Porte during the absence of Sir Henry Layard on leave.

Latest news from Afghanistan reports that General Stewart has replaced General Sir Fredk. Roberts hi command of the British force in Cabul.

Infrior sugar is lower in price at Mamitius. A poor crop is expected. A cargo of 1406 tons has been cleared for Australia, and 200 tons for New Zealand.

At the wool sales on the 3rd May, 12,000 bales were offered, making a total of 139,500 bales catalogued since the opening. The tone of the sale was quieter; washed cross-breds are 3d lower, and greasy cross-breds 2d lower. At the wool sales on the 7th May, 8500 bales were offered, making a total of 104,000 bales catalogued since the opening. The auction sale was marked by a slightly improved tendency. There is a fair demand for most descriptions of hides.

The Board of Trade returns of imports and exports for the last nionth show a decided improvement. The question of meat importation is seriously occupyiug public attention. A prospectus has been issued ot a Colonial Fresh Meat Company, with a capital of .£200,000. Hah" that sum will be issued, and a company will commence operations immediately. Sir William Vernon Harcourt, who was appointed Home Secretary in the new Ministry, has been defeated, on seeking re-election for Oxford.
