THE LYTTELTON TIMES SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT.

The following letters appeared in the Taranaki Herald and Wanganui Herald of Thursday last : — " Sir, — In the Taranaki Herald, of the 3rd of May, you re-publish part of a letter from the Lyttelton Times' correspondent, which states that a member of the A.C. Force in this district died a few months ago under some circumstances of neglect. This is utterly untrue. There has been no death from any cause whatever among the A.C.'s in this district dining the past year. — I am, &c, W. F. Keating, M.D.

" P.S. — Might it not be well, when republishing any of Mr. Crombie Brown's statements, to mention that they are generally untrue or inaccurate ? "W. F. K."

To this the Editor of the Herald adds the following remarks : — " We have stated more than once, and in pi'etty plain language too, that the letters sent by the special to the Lyttelton Times and New Zealand Herald, were most unreliable."

" Sir, — The Wanganui Chronicle and the Taranaki Herald appeal to be respectively the Ananias and the Sapphira of Colonial journalism ; and the mutual devotion they display in copying one another's lies is really touching. Recently they honored me by chronicling my movements, and have exercised their mendacious ingenuity in inventing reasons for my goings out and my comings in. With reference to a peragraph which appeared in this mornings An-or Sapphira — winch is which ? — I can only say that I parted temporarilyfrom the mess on the most intimate and cordial terms with every member of it — Major Tuke, on behalf of the mess, kindly expressing a hope to see me back soon. I return tomorrow, having fulfilled my mission, viz., to report Mr. Ballance^s very excellent speech. So much for this fib. The last one was, in a sudden burst of remorse on the part of the Editor of the Taranaki Herald, withdrawn under the hiuniliating admission 'Wrong as usual' — and still again — apologising and I am, " S. Crombie Bpown." '
