CRICKET.
A cricket match was played on Saturday between a second eleven of the Hawera Cricket Club and a picked eleven from the A.C. station at Wailii. Only six from the Hawera club played in the first innings, and eight in the second, Goodson and Dacre having turned up. Mason captained the Hawera team, and Sergeant Chitty the Waihis. The Hawera men went first to the wickets in the hope that the remainder of the team would be present before the close of the innings. The " absent ones," however, did not put in an appearance, and those who took the willow were disposed of for 37, Griffiths and Wolner doing the bowling for the Wailris. Ashton and Callender then went to the wickets for the Wailii team, to the bowling of Mason and Wanklyn, but did not last very long, the eleven being disposed of for a total ol 57 runs. In the second innings the Hawera team received an addition of two men, and made a very respectable score of 64 ; the Waihi team making 44 in their second innings, the match thus resulting in a tie. Retford and Bolton acted as substitutes for Mann and Packer during the second innings of the Wailii team. The Hawera Eleven were allowed substitutes in the field for those who were absent.
