The market Is considerably easier in tone.and buyers are not so anxious to secure parcels. We quote wheat, 3s. lOd. to 3s. lid., and for a first-class lot, 4s. Oats are unaltered in value, and few lots are brought forward. Barley tnaintanis the same feeliug. Prime reaches up to 3s. lOd. Good malting, 3s. 6d. Lower .grades are not much in request, and range about Bs. Bd. Flour is still quoted at £10 10s. to .£ll by the millers. Gross Beeds still continue -dull of sale. Butter, 7d. to IH- ; cheese, 4i-l. to 6d. Hams and bacon scarce. Wahutk (Canterbury), April 6. The recent alleged sale of 80,000 bushels of oats at Bid. is contradicted. 11,000 bushels were sold a few days ago at Is. 3d. MsiiBOOBNi, April 6. New Zealand milling oats are worth 2s. 7d. to 2s. Bd. . In consequence of short supplies, there is a good inquiry. April 8. A cargo of Mauritius sugar has been sold at a decline of 15a. for white, and 10s. for yellow. Mauritius advices, dated 24th March, state that sugar market is firm, but little doing; tonnage scarce ; freights, Sis. 6d., There is a moderate business doing in oats.
It is understood that a large business is expected to be done in Mauritius sugar.
SALE OP BLOOD STOCK. Cheibxchoech, April 1. Some very large prices were given for young stock at; the annual Middle Park stud sale to-day. A Traducer — Idolia colt, own brother to Betrayer and Sir Modred. was bought by the Hon. E. Campbell, of Oamaru, for 1025 guineas; a Traducer — Hammock colt fell to the same purchaser for 600 guineas. Mr. Stead gave 425 guineas for- a chestnut colt by Traducer — Rupee, late Half-Crown ; and Messrs. Bedwood and Vallance gove 260 guineas each -forjjolts by Traducer. The total result of the' sale was 355S guineas for 25 animals. The colts by colonial mares fetched Iqw prices, and so did a number of blood mares which were sold.
April 4. There was a largo attendance of sporting men to-day at Ford and Co.'c sale of racehorses, but the bidding was exceedingly tamo. The following waa the result : — On account of Qt. Stead, Le Loup passed in at 400 guineas; on account of Stead and Griffiths, to close partnership, Betrayer, 400 guineas, purchaser G. Stead; on account of Kay and Co., the Governor, 235 guineas, J. Lunn; Fißhnook, 335 guineas, J. Lunn; Hornby, 450 guineas, J. Lunn; Maritana, 175 guineas, J. Lunn; Saunterer (absent in Napier), 100 guineas, J. Lunn. (The auctioneer stated that Mr. Lunn had purchased the horses on account of P. Butler.) Fiction, 60 guineas, Derritt, on account of Brabazon ; Albany — Sludge filly, 24 guineas, S. Higgott, on account of C, Webb; Virginia Water, passed in at 375 guineas; two Knottingly— Tantrums fillies, 15 guineas each, Houghton and Delamain, on account of various owners; Harkairay, 175 guineas, Eoskrudge ; Robin Hood, 11 guineas, Brown. Some other young Btock were Bold at prices ranging from 10 to 19 guineas.
