Lake Wairarapa

DRAINAGE PROPOSALS

The council of the Hutt Valley Chamber of Commerce and Industry was notified at its meeting last week that a report on the proposed drainage of portion of Lake Wairarapa had been received by the Government but had not yet been considered. Later a public statement would be made.

The secretary, Mr. L. V. Phillips, said that when the drainage was carried out a large area of land would be made available for small farms and market gardens. .This would be of great importance to the Hutt Valley when the Rimutaka tunnel was completed.
