FREE AMBULANCE

WOMEN’S GUILD GRATITUDE

At the monthly meeting of the Hutt Valley Women’s Citizen Guild, presided over by Mrs. C. E. Moran, appreciation was expressed at the reply from the Free Ambulance Association that an ambulance is to be stationed permanently in Lower Hutt.

The secretary, Mrs. E. Denny, was instructed to write and thank Sir Charles Norwood and his association for their endeavour to serve the people of the Hutt Valley. In his letter to the Guild Sir Charles said:-—

“Arrangements have been made to place an ambulance permanently in the Hutt and, to make this possible, three new ambulance chassis have been purchased. Bodymakers are working upon the necessary ambulance bodies and have promised to give them preference, but I would assure you that in body making, like other branches of trade, shortage of labour makes progress very slow. However, you may be assured, that the request in your letter will have the attention of my Board at the earliest possible moment. “In the meantime, special care is being taken to provide efficient transport throughout the Hutt Valley and there is scarcely an hour in any day there are not at least two ambulances in your centre. These ambulances, by arrangement, call back and sometimes attend to several cases before they return to Wellington. “I have had the superintendent examine all the calls from the Hutt Valley for a considerable period back and I cannot find a single instance in Which "an urgent case has been neglected, nor have we had a definite complaint. My Board, however, realises the importance of having an ambulance in the Hutt Valley, and as it is our first object to serve the people the fact of having a vehicle standing by must add to your confidence in the service.”
