FAREWELL AT PETONE The staff of the p. and A. Odiin Timber, and Hardware Company, Ltd., assembled in strong force at the social haU of the Petone Workingmen’s Club pp Wednesday evening to bid farewell to Mr. Arthur Chudleigh, ryho has occupied a responsible position with the firm and is now leaving to go into business on his own account at Upper Hutt. Afr. E. Olive.crona acted as M.C.

The managing director, IVI r - P* C. Odiin, expressed pleasure at being present on behalf of the directors. He said 4 was good for the staff to get together for social enjoyment, and paid a tribute to the employees’ social club for -the way in which it had organised varipus functions. In a eulogy of Mr. Chudleigh’s services Mr. Odiin said it was a hard thing to say farewell tp ope who had given such cheerful, efficient, willing and loyal service during his twenty years with the firm. He had np flQlibt Mrs. Chudleigh hap played a large part in keeping her husband bright and cheerful.

Messrs. L. Pointon, R. Whitehead, and E. Todd also paid tributes to Mr. Chudleigh’s good qualities and his popularity with the staff. Mrs. Q. C. Qdlin presented Mr. Chudlpigh with a handsome radio receiving set from the staff as an expression of their' appreciation and goodwill.

In reply Mr. Chudleigh conveyed his thanks for the handsome ' gift and the sentiments expressed. An excellent dance band supplied exhilarating music tp which fifty copples fianced with zest. Miss J. Kennedy gave three vqcal items which won for her enthusiastic applause. Little ¥4? Honeybone captivated the gathering with a skilful exhibition of skipping rope dancing, while Messrs. Mailman and Forsyth pleased with a*voqal duet. As midnight • approached thp gathering joined hands gnd sang “Auld Lang Syne” and gave rousing; cheers for Mr. and JVt rs - Chudleigh.
