opening of season

There was a good attendance at.', the official opening of the season of the Hutt Bowling Mid-week Women’s Tennis Club.

Mrs. C. H. Hain, president, wished the club success. She was presented with a spray of lovely rosebuds. Mrs, Waistell, wife of the secretary of the tennis section, drove the first ball over the net.

The women’s captain, Mrs. Norman Hannah, was in charge of the games. ..

The club has vacancies for new members, and those interested should get in touch with Mrs. Hannah.

ST. STEPHEN’S CLUB At a recent meeting of the St. Stephen's Tennis Club committee it was. decided to enter a team in this year’s junior and third grade*'interclub competitions respectively, to be held under the auspices of the Hutt yalley Lawn Tennifi Association. mckenzie beaten New; Zealand’s No. 1 lawn tennis player, R. McKenzie, was beaten 6-2, 6-3, by C. Angas at the Newtown courts on Saturday. Other games resulted: —D. Pointon beat J. Taylor, 6-4, 6-1; B. McCardle beat R. Banks, 6-1, 6-3; J. Hamilton beat S. Painter, 6-3, 6-4.
