RUGBY
OLD TIMERS’ DAY The annual gathering of past and present players took place on Saturday. The attendance in the afternoon for the field events and the match between ‘/Old Timers” was rather thin, no doubt due to the cold and showery weather. Later on, however, a representative gathering assembled for the social proceedings, when many old acquaintances met.
again. . Among those present were Messrs. Mot Welch, the first president of the club; J. M’cGurk, the first field captain; Lou Grant, Bert Kilmister, and Pinkie Read, of the old Kia Ora and Epuni Clubs, which subsequently amalgamated to form the Hutt Club.
These are the real ‘‘old timers” of the club, and they have remarkably good memories of incidents which occurred over forty years ago. The club should get them to write down their memories and from these prepare a history of the club. The old timers’ committee can be congratulated upon another successful gathering, which was made all the more enjoyable by the presence of Phil Gamby’s Band.
