Footpath Traffic

POWERS OF OFFICERS

The question was raised at the last meeting of the executive of the Lower Hutt Ratepayers’ Association whether City Council traffic officers can exercise any 7 control over pedestrians and cyclists on footpaths. Examples of pedestrians being inconvenienced and in some cases knocked over by cy'dists or persons wheeling cycles were quoted. The secretary was directed to ascertain whether the traffic officer has any control over such traffic on footpaths, and, if he has no such control, then to recommend to the Council that an appropriate by-law be considered with a view to giving traffic inspectors power of control over footpath traffic.
