Children’s Books

1 ' ♦ SPECIAL WEEK HELD A Children’s Book Week, sponsored by the New Zealand Library Association and the Associated Booksellers, is being held throughout New Zealand this week.

The Lower Hutt Library is doing its part in the Children’s Book Week by making a special window display and encouraging the issue of suitable, books for young people. The campaign was launched by an address over the air-on Sunday night by Mr. Anton Vogt. He said it was important to remember that children should have all kinds of books and not only stories. They wanted facts, too, concerning people, places and things, and information about how to make and do things. The chief credit for bringing the “new look” in children’s books to New Zealand must go to the National Library Service, said Mr. Vogt. Its schools' section is now maintaining a feeder service of about 100,000 bookS to supplement the libraries in the schools.
