The Governor-General, Sir Bernard Freyberg, and Lady Freyberg, attended the first performance in New Zealand of “Under the Counter” by the Cicely Courtneidge Company, at the Grand Opera House, Wellington, on Saturday night.
The .Rev. Robert Warnock, of St. David’s Presbyterian Church, Palmerston North, is visiting his sisters, Misses J. and M. Warnock, of Lower Hutt.
Mr. Harry Brusey, of Lower Hutt, will leave on Friday for Gisborne, where he will judge the music sections at the competitions. 9 » «• Mr. J. Cotterell, M.P. for Wanganui, will give a talk to the pupils of the Hutt Intermediate School tomorrow morning. This is in continuation of the school’s policy of developing the children’s interest in community and national affairs by arranging periodical talks by public men.
Mr. G. Austad, of Lower Hutt, has been elected the first life member of the New Zealand Marching Association.
Squadron Leader G. Martin, repi’esenting Trinity Congregational Church, Lower Hutt, has been elected secretary of the Wellington branch of the Congregational Laymen’s Institute Fellowship, an organisation instituted by the Congregational Union of England and Wales -and destined to become world-wide through the International Congregational Council.
