Scout Officers
HONOURED FOR SERVICES LONG SERVICE AWARD The following Commissioners, District Officer, and Scouter of the Hutt Valley and Bays Boy Scout Councy have been awarded the Long Service Award of the Boy Scout Association for faithful nd efficient service to the movement over the past years. Acting County Commissioner F. L. McKenzie has long been associated with the Scout movement. He was for a number of years closely associated with the Ist Lower Hutt (Richmond) Gi’oup as, its Group Scoutmaster, and scill takes an active interest in that group’s affairs, as well as attending to tbe many duties which fall to his lot as a Coinmissioner. He is the holler of the Association’s Medal of Merit and .Bar, which is awarded for outstanding service to the movement. In 1939 he went to the Australian Jamboree as headquarters representative and was the deputy-leader of the Dominion contingent for the French Jamboree.
Assistant County Commissioner for Headquarters C. Halford has also long been associated with the movement in the Valley, holding the office of D.S.’M. for some fime. He was the Scouter in charge of the Manuka Troop which went to the Australian Jamboree in 1939.. Last year he was awarded the Association’s Medal of Merit, for outstanding service to the movement.
Assistant County Commissioner for Special Duties, R. C. Nelson joined the movement on its inception in the Dominion, and. has been associated with St. Augustine’s group' in Petone since. He is remembered by many Scouts of the county as having been the means of teaching them so many Scout out-door activities. District Cubmaster for Hutt D Hunn was for many years cubmaster of the 2nd Lower Hutt (Allen) Groiup. He was one of the members of the 2nd Lower Hutt Scout Troop. In 1945 he was awarded the Association’s Certificate of Merit in recognition of service rendered to the movement. Cubmaster L. Bryant fpn many years has been an extremely active member of the movement in the Upper Hutt area. He has carried on without the aid of a committee and has always been willing :o help where this was needed. Upper Hutt may well be grateful to this Scouter, for his interest in the local youth.
