Mr. and Mrs. Frank Cometti, of Lower Hutt, left by the Marine Phoenix last week on a six months’ visit to the United States. While there they will visit their daughter Ngaire (Mrs. W. C. Schumacher), of Jersey City. • * • Mrs. L. Man tell, of Petone, won the recent Cottrell Trophy competition (poem with a Maori motif) conducted by the New Zealand Women Writers and Artists’ Society, with her poem, “Lament for Ngarimu.”

Miss Beryl Taylor, of the staff of the Hutt Valley Memorial Technical College, spoke at Evensong at St. Augustine’s Church, Petone, on Sunday night. Miss Taylor was one of the delegates at the World Christian Youth Conference held at Oslo, Norway, in 1947.

Sybil Phillipps (Mrs. Frank Skeet), of Lower Hutt, who sang in “Maritana” with the Masterton Choral Society last week, will sing three groups of songs at the Vocal Art Society’s concert at Palmerston North on June 25.

Miss Jacqueline Beere, of Wellington, has been awarded a British Council Scholarship for drama, and will take a production course at the Old Vic Theatre School in London. Miss Beere is an art specialist who visits schools in the Wellington and Hutt Valley areas.

Shona Dunlop, an outstanding member of the Bodenweiser Ballet, which appeared in Lower Hutt last year, is to be married shortly to Rev. Donald McTavish, of Winnipeg, Canada, a missionary from China, and will help her husband in his work in Ichang.
