Need in Valley
*■ -» ■ - V' 1 "-' HOSTEL FOR APPRENTICES
COMMERCE (II AM RE It’S MOVE. Tlie need of a hostel for apprentices in tlie Hutt Valley has been under consideration by the Hutt Valley Chamber of Commerce and Industry for some time. The suggestion is to build a hostel on a site in the Waiwhetu area allocated by the Lower Hutt City Council. A committee was set up some time ago to interview the Prime Minister, Mr. Fraser, and tlie Minister of Finance, Mr. Nash, but so iar it has not been possible to arrange an interview.
It was hoped that tlie Wellington Boys’ Institute would associate itself with the Chamber in the move, but at a recent meeting of the council of the Chamber advice was received that the Boys’ Institute could only act in an advisory ca-
pacity. It was decided to contact Mr Nash immediately, with a view to discussing the proposal with him.
Most of th§ apprentices affected are employees of the Hutt Railway Workshops.
