A good response has been,made to the appeal to lo.cal bodies and organisations tor grants towards a presentation to Mr. A. McFadyen, who will retire shortly from the position of principal of the Hutt Valley Memorial Technical College at Petone, which he has held for eighteen years. Among the latest donations are £2/2/- from the Hutt Valley Chamber of Commerce and Industry, £lO/10/- from the Builders’ Association, £5 from the Petone and Lower Hiltt Gas Board, and £2/2/from the Wellington Employers’ Association.

At a meeting of the council of the Chamber of Commerce warm tributes were paid to Mr. McFadyen’s valuable work in turning out not only good scholars hut good citizens.

A public farewell will be accorded Mr. McFadyen in the College gymnasium at Petone on August 11. •
