NEW ZEALAND PIANIST

“LOCAL BOY MAKES GOOD” Saturday niglu’g concert at the Wellington Town Hall was a triumph for Richard Farrell and a joy for the large audience. Here in truth was the case of “local boy makes good,” for music-lovers quickly realised that the nine-year-old pianist who had left Wellington eleven years ago had returned at 20 a gifted artist, a master ef the piano. Incidentally, he has an attractive platform personality, without manneiisms of any kind. The young pianist’s programme included the Bach Chaconne, Schubert’s Sonata in A Minor, a Sonata by Aaron Copland (an interesting and stimulating modern composition), and several Chopin compositions. He delighted the enthusiastic audience with his generous encores.
