OLD ACTORS BATH
LAVISH BATHTUB SCENE
Victor Moore, who admits to 70 years, has given some of Hollywood’s luscious lovelies a reason to look to. their laurels —at leaist, insofar as lavish bubble-baths are concerned. He enjoyed that kind of ablution during the filming of an hilarious scene in the romantic comedy “It Happened on Fifth Avenue.” Del Ruth, who produced and directed the picture, and all the others on the set enjoyed it too—as much, if not more, than Moore. It was the first time that any of them had watched an actor strip down to a pair of shorts, step into a dazzling tub big enough to accommodate four adults at once, and then all but disappear in a storm of water, foam and bubbles. There is a trick to producing a bathtub scene like Moore’s. Here it is: After Moore settled himself in the big tub, technicians packed transparent bags filled with cotton around him. A large dishpan was wedged between his knees. _ Other technicians poured water and a chemical solution into the pan, and with the use of an air hose aimed at the pan, did the rest. Bubbles zoomed out of the tub, floating all around the vast sound stage. Moore, using a back brush, lashed out at them at first; then lie leaned back, silent apd happy. When the scene was finished a chorus of laughter was heard. It came from Don DeFore,' Ann Harding, Charlie Ruggles and Gale Storm, the other stars of “It Happened on Fifth Avenue.” Moore stood up in the tub, suds running down his arms as he shook a finger at them. “You’d think it was the first time I ever took a bath,” he said. “But that isn’t true. Why, just last Saturday. . . .”
