ACTIVITIES AT TAITA A conference between a deputation elected from the annual general meeting of the Community Centre Committee and the Taita Residents’ Association was held recently, when it was decided that the Residents’ Association be asked to take over the present functions of the Community Centre Committee. The decisions of the conference will be placed before a public meeting to be held on July 1. In particular, the Residents’ Association will be asked to assume responsibility for the maintenance of the present Community Hall in Taine Street and carry on incidental activities of the former Community Centre Committee, in which most of the local organisations participated. Plans for buildings to meet the present and future needs of tire community are to be considered. When these are agreed upon the support of ail residents will be asked for, so that they may be obtained as soon as possible. To augment the Residents’ Association Committee the forthcoming public meeting will be asked to elect five additional persons to the committee. In order that the viewpoint and needs of local organisations receive adequate consideration they will be asked to appoint repre sentatives on an advisory committee. Those present were: Mrs. A. R. Perry, Messrs. Protheroe, McClellan, Freeman and Greenwood (comprising the deputation from the general meeting), Mr. A. S. McKenzie, secretary of the Community Centre Committee, and the members of the committee of the Residents’ Association. Mr. G. J. Griffin, president of the Residents' Association, was chairman and Mr. J. O. Smith was secretary. The decisions of the conference were unanimous.
