The Governor-General, Sir Bernard Freyberg, has been elected patron of the Wellington Horticultural Society.

The Minister of Finance, Mr. W. Nash, and the Minister of Industries and Commerce, Mr. Nordmeyer, are visiting Australia to discuss with the Australian Government matters relating to the expansion of trade between the two countries. Major-General H. K. Kippenberger, of Lower Hutt, editor-in-chief of New Zealand War Histories, was included in the King's Birthday Honours List, being made a Knight Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (K.B.E).

Mr. J. E. F. Vogel, of Lower Hutt, and Mr. J. Huggan, of Pefone, have been appointed members of the committee s,et up by the Government to allocate State houses in the Welling-tor.-Hutt Valley area.

Mr. R. P. Rose, City Valuer, was congratulated by the Lower Hutt City Council on Monday night on the fact that his valuations nad been upheld at a recent sitting of the Assessment Court. "It is a matter for congratulation for the City Valuer and the City Council," said the Mayor.

Mr. James R. Bartholomew, a former magistrate, has been appointed to till temporarily the position, of chairman or the War Pensions Appeal Fund.

Mr. R. J. Dunkley, of Lower Hutt, hasi been visiting the South Island.

Mr. Ray Rogers, a foundation member of the Petone Swimming Club, who is leaving Petone on transfer to Blenheim, was the guest of the club at a t.ociai and dance on Friday night.

The impending departure for Hawke's Bay of Mr. J. Carlson, a prominent member of the Hutt Repertory Theatre as producer and performer, was referred to by the retiring president, Mrs. Craig Mackenzie, at the annual meeting of the Society. Mrs. Mackenzie thanked Mr. Carlson for past services.

Messrs J. E. F. Vogql and H Poole, oi -Cower Hull, have beer elected vice-presidents of the Wellington Horticultural Society.

Mr. E. Hutt, superintendent of reserves to the Wellington City Cou;i cil and formerly holding a similar position in Lower Hutt, has been elected a vice-president and member of the committee of the Wellington Horticultural Society.
