Silver Jubilee
V HUTT VALLEY TRAMPERS Recently from 200 to 300 past and present members of the Hutt Valley Thamping Club came from far and near to celebrate the club’s 25th birthday. Amongst these it was pleasing to see some foundation members find members who joined during the first decade. The Tararua Tramping Club, Paua Tramping Club, 'Wellington Mountaineering and Trampirtg Club, Wellington Roman Catholic Club, and Masterton Y.M.C.A. Tramping Club were represented.
The programme commenced with afternoon tea, followed by the ceremony of cutting the birthday cake. Mr. W. Gibbs (Tararua Tramping Club) proposed the toast of the Hutt Valley Tramping Club, and Mr. W. H. Wilson (president Hutt Valley Tramping Club) responded, and to his toast of “Kindred Clubs” Mr. W. Lawrenson (Paua Tramping Club) responded. Musical items and community singing preceded high tea. after which were shown films and lantern slides of the early days, causing much amusement. Conjuring tricks by Mr. J. Woods were popular. The festivities concluded with modem and old-time dancing.
The next day many of the trampers assembled at Lower Hu it and proceeded through Jubilee Park to the top of Koro Koro ridge and descended to Petone, halting for lunch, group photographs and afternoon tea at Mrs. C. Tyler’s house.
