The New Zealand Returned Services Association has awarded the Certificate of Merit and Gold Star to Mr. J. W. Andrews, and Certificates of Merit to Messrs. H. E. Edwards and E. F. Wilton, in recognition of their long and outstanding services in the intere&ts of ex-servicemen.
Messrs. H. E. Edwards (returning vice-president) and E. F. Wilton wore elected members at the annual meeting of the Hutt Valley Returned Services Association. Tributes to their services were paid by the president.
Colonel G. Clifton, camp commandant, Trentham camp, was thanked by the retiring president of the Hutt Valley Returned Services Association, Mr. A. Monigatti, at the annual meeting of the association, for assistance given in committee with the transit housing scheme at Trentham.
Mr. K. A. Wallace has been appointed commercial manager lor New Zealand Railways in succession to Mr. H. A. Steers, who retired after 40 years' service. Mr. W. E. Kodges, commercial agent, Wellington, replaces Mr. Wallace as a&sis.ant commercial manager. '
Mr. E. 0. Hall has, been awarded the Lord Rutherford Memorial Research Fellowship by Canterbury University College. Mr. G. P. Barton has been awarded the Humanitarian Trust Fund studentship in pubiic international law at Cambridge University.
Mr. Frederick Purnell, who has been Mayor of Marton for 26yar3, has resigned the position owing x'o ill-health.
