New Settlers
|MORE HOSPITALITY WANTED
S A short time ago an appeal was made to residents in the Hutt Valley to assist; in the absorption of new settlers into community life by Inviting them to their homes. "The result has been most disappointing," said the deputy-chair-man of the committee in a recent ■interview, "and from the very few "approaches made to the committee by residents it-fieeras ' that we are not living up to our reputation for hospitality. These young men and ■women have come to this country to make their future here, and many .of them are from the services whcih ; so ably and completely withstood the "onslaughts of the enemy during the ■'recent, war. These young people are 'in jobs and working well, helping us produce those many things necessary to everyday life. Most of them are in camps and hostels, very excellent indeed, but lacking that spirit of home which can only come from the home fireside. "-- "I am sure," concluded the spokesman for the Welfare Committee, "that every one of us desires to assist in this important aspect of immigration welfare work, and anyone desiring to meet any of our new friends should contact the secretary, P.O. Box Gl, Lower Hutt."
