HUTT VALLEY HARRIERS
OFFICIAL OPENING OF SEASON
The Hutt Valley Harrier Club's official opening took place last Saturday at the Petone West School and it was pleasing to see a largo number or members and supporters present.
Speakers included the president, Mr. M. Cough; one of the vice-presi-dents. Mr. H. Combs, M.P.; and the patron. Mr. E. Hartley, who concluded his speech by declaring the season officially open. With 40 runners present it was necessary to have three packs and the results of the four-mile run were:—-
Fast pack: W. Jones, 1; E. Taylor, 2; J. Cook, 3. Medium pack: N. Craig, 1; A. R. Scott, 2; R. Robertson, 3. Colts' pack: J. McGuire, 1; ,R. Garrett. 2; R. Sutherland, 3. W. Jones and W. Smith set a good pace for the fast pack, and these boys are obviously very fit. N<"-ll Craig led the medium pack home, and this evergreen has been with the club for 24 years. As a matter of interest, he was one of the original members who formed the club. J. McGuire led the colts home and the club congratulates him on being elected captain of the H.V.M.T.C. Harrier Club.
Doug. Dennison and "Rongo" Furness were In the fast pack on Saturday and on the form they showed they will keep (here for some time.
Next week's run* will take place at Petone West School at 2.30 p.m.
