SHORTAGE OF LABOUR
SEEKING A SOLUTION
A report by the assistant city engineer to the Lower Hutt City Council showed an acute shortage oi' labourers, creating a very unsatisfactory position, which called for early action.
The Works Committee reported thatjon the suggestion of the .-Mayor it was decided that a conference of district local bodies' representatives, consisting of the chairman oi the works committee, the Mayor and engineer of each, together with the chairman of the Hutt River Board, the Power Board, and the> Petone and Lower Hutt Gas Board,.' should be called to discuss the'matter and attempt to reach agreement; and find a solution to the problem.' '
