BELMONT AFFAIRS
RETENTION OF RAILWAY URGED At a well-attended annual meeting of the Belmont Improvement Association it was decided to seek the support of residents for a petition for the retention of the Western Hutt railway at least as far as the present Andrews railway station, and for the construction of the new limitedaccess highway on the east rather than the west bank of the river. The incoming executive was instructed to investigate ways and means of securing improved amenities for the district, and to report to the next general meeting. The election of officers resulted: : — .President, Mr. W. P. Carman; vicepresident, Mr. 11. H. Hurst; lion, secretary, Mrs. 11. W. Bennett; hon. treasurer, Mr. E. C. Spencer; committee, Messrs. K. Bellam, H. W. Bennett, W. P. Carter, W. J. Fife, S. C. Morris, H'. R. Swift, and H. Verrall; hon. auditor, Mr. L. V. Phillips.
