Hutt Valley Cricket
PROSPECTS l'Oli SEASON Notification of the reconsideration of their application for minor association status was received at a recent meeting of the Hutt Valley Cricket Association. The N.Z. Cricket Council invited two delegates to attend the Biennial Conference to be held in Christchurch on October 31st. Messrs. E. J. Aim, deputy-chairman, and H. N. Jones, secretary, were appointed to attend. The appointment of a Junior Advisory Board to control all junior and boys’ Saturday morning cricket was concluded when Messrs. C. McNabb, K. Ferguson (Petone United), J. W. Gillen (Petone), D. Keenan (Eastbourne), A. Williams. (Trafalgar Park), H. Hudson (Epuni), A. Harrison (Stop Out), and J. Dauby (Upper Hutt) were appointed to act with Mr. R. W. Stehr, chairman (Hutt Club). The Christchurch Suburban Association invited a team to travel to Christchurch at New Year. This invitation was accepted as there will be no major cricket fixture in Christchurch at New Year. Efforts are being made to secure senior, junior, and colt s fixtures with the Wairarapa, Hawke's Bay, Wanganui, Taranaki, and Nelson cricket associations during the season. Owing to the deferred decision of the N.Z. Cricket Council regarding minor association status, it was de-1 cided not to participate in the cricket week proposed by the Wellington Mercantile League, although it was desired that the annual fixture be continued. Indoor Couching School The activities of the indoor coaching school were most encouraging. The maximum number of pupils, sixty, were receiving tuition from Mr. K. C. James, and it has been necessary to create a waiting list to cope with the demand for coaching. A special committee has been appointed to formulate a programme for coaching primary and secondary school pupils. James will commence as a full-time coach on November Ist. October 14 th was fixed for the closing of team nominations, and practise and match wicket applications will close a week earlier. Providing wickets are available it was /decided to commence the season on October 19th. Messrs. E. J. Aim, W. Milner, and H. N. Jones were appointed selectors for the season. The following sub-committees were appointed:—Emergency committee, Messrs. ,F. J. May, A. Hillock, and H. N. Jones; transfer committee, Messrs. F. J. May, A. Hillock, and 1-1. N. Jones; fixtures committee, Messrs. It. W. Stehr and A. Hillock; finance committee, Messrs. E. J. Aim, F. J. May, E. Sanford, and Major P. Monk; delegation committee, Messrs. E. Sanford, E. J. Aim, F. J. May, H. N. Jones, and Major P. Monk; grounds committee, Messrs. E. Foley, R. Driscoll, J. Shankie, F. Brocklebank, and E. J. Aim. The entire commitlce will function on the social and grading committees. Mr. G. R. Simpson, chairman, and E. J. Aim were appointed to confer witli the Headmasters' Association regarding the introduction of a scheme to coach school pupils by K. C. James. Manawatu Supports Hutt Valley. A decision to support the Hutt Valley Association’s application for Minor Association status was made at a meeting of the Manawatu Cricket Association. The Hutt Valley Association would be an asset to Welliugton Country cricket, it was thought.
