SPRING FLOWER SHOW
y TAITA WOMEN’S INSTITUTE Spring was in the air at the meeting of the Taita Women’s Institute, held at Taita Hall, it being their spring flower show. Mrs. Draper presided over a very good attendance of members and visitors. The cuddly toys brought by members for the children of Greece were much admired. Parcels for the sick in hospitals at Christmas time were received. The tables were a blaze of colour. Narcissi, polyanthus, Iceland poppies, tulips, baskets, decorative floating bowls, little posies for breakfast tray, etc., were all there. The following tvere the prize-win-ners:—Champion bloom, Mrs. Jackson; collection of polyanthus, Mrs. Bonthorne; freesias, Mrs. Dyer; anemones and ranunculus, Mrs. Sage; tulips, Mrs. Cameron; ariculas, Miss Wilson; beauty stocks, Mrs. Middleton; bowl of blooms, Mrs. Jackson: narcissi, Mrs. Jackson; Iceland poppies, Mrs. Pemberton; stocks, Miss Wilson; open basket, Mrs. Wilson; novice basket, Mrs. Jackson; bowl of calendulas, Mrs. Sage; box flowers, Mrs. Bonthorne; tall vase. Mrs. Westbury; bowl of flowers, Mrs. Sole; floating bowl, Mrs. Wilson; women’s spray, Mrs. Keale; breakfast tray posy, Mrs. Hamilton; novelty, Mesdames Cannon and Hamilton (equal); novice class, Miss Wilson. The cup for best bloom w r as Avon by Mrs. Jackson. Best cuddly toy was won by Mrs. Wilson. Best scones, Mesdames Dyer and Cannon (equal). The choir contributed songs suitable for the occasion. The judge was Mrs. Jarvis, who was presented with a floral tribute. The National Anthem brought a very successful show to a close.
