B REVIEW OF YEAR’S WORK FAREWELL TO PRESIDENT. The third annual meeting of the Rotary Club of Hutt was held last week. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year:—President, Mr. M. W. Ralph; vice-president, Mr. L. V. Phillips; sergeant-at-arms, Mr. N. T. Gillespie; hon. secretary and treasurer, Mr. G. R. Pitkethley; directors, Messrs. E. S. Carey, H. D. Guthrie, J. J. Quinn, and L. F. Elbe; assistant secretary, .Mr. C. E. Edmeades; hon. auditor, Mr. A. Ackroyd. * The report showed that many useful activities had been carried out. during the year, including a picnic and a Christmas party for the young people and a good deal of practical help for the benefit of the speech therapy clinic. Planting of Trees. The club is showing very practical interest in the planting of trees on Arbor Day and has set up a special committee to direct, operations and to educate young people in the important subjects of soil conservation and tree planting. Certain members of the club are actively interested in Heritage and making contacts with the homes of deceased ex-servicemen. The average attendance for the year was 84.18 per cent., with a membership of 33. Two members have the maximum attendance to their credit since the formation of the club. Past President Farewelled. The opportunity was taken to bid farewell to the club’s past president, who found it necessary to resign from the club, and on behalf of the members Mr. C. E. Moran expressed regret that Mr. Jacques was leaving the club and presented him with a set of sleeve links as a, souvenir of the goodfellowship which existed among Rotarians. In thanking members for the gift Mr. Jacques said that he had made many friends through Rotary and had greatly profited by the experience and hoped to retain the friendships he had made.
