GAS SUPPLY.

(To the Editor.) Sir, —We have heard a number of excuses from the chairman of the Gas Board to explain the reason for the failure of the gas supply in our homes, and none of these appears to be very satisfactory. I wonder if Mr. Muir would care to affirm or deny the following reasons which rumour says are the real cause of the trouble: (1) The Gas Board is unable to get delivery of pipes ordered from Australia two years ago. Wot! No pipes! (2) The coal received is not gas coal. Wot! No coal! (3) The Board, being a municipal body, is prevented by legislation from competing in the open market for its labour. As there are many more congenial and higher-paid jobs offering today, who can blame them? Wot! No men! Surely if these reasons are correct it is well that the public should know the truth and reconcile themselves to the fact that there will not be any improvement for many a long day.—l am, etc., • WOT! NO GAS!
