Horticultural Society

ANNUAL MEETING HELD ELECTION OF OFFICERS f The annual meeting of the Hutt j Valley Horticultural Society was e held last Wednesday evening, the president, Mr. N. B. Gibbons, occupying the chair. In speaking to the report, Mr. Gibbons said that during the war c the Society had been under some 5 disadvantage in being deprived of the use of its own hall foi' the shows, 3 but now that peace was restored 3 and the Horticultural hall again • available he hoped the Society would 1 be able to carry on its normal woi'k. . The lease of the hall to the Returned l Services’ Association had been com- ; pleted and negotiations were proceeding with the Public Works Department and the Society’s architect , for the necessary repairs to the hall, which he hoped would be completed in a reasonable time. With the re- ' turn to the Horticultural Hall the activities of the Society would increase, as there was an opportunity not only to hold shows but to direct ) horticulture for the benefit of the people. Mr. Poole regretted that the flower shows were not better attended by 1 the large population in the Valley 1 and hoped there would be an im- ’ provement when the shows were held in the Horticultural Hah.
