HUTT BEATEN BY WELLINGTON Bad handling and overmuch kicking by the backs cost Hutt two valuable championship points against Wellington. In the absence of Rogers, Burns and Dnft'y in the forwards and SeWell in the backs, it was anticipated that Hutt's task would not be easy. The forwards in particular were expected to be up against it, but as matters turned out it was the backs who failed. They were given a good supply of the ball from scrums and rucks, but frittered away chance after chance either by bad handling or putting the ball in the air to be gathered in time and again by the opposing full back, Kenny, who was right on his game. It was a most disappointing exhibition after such a sound display the previous week. The score avus Wellington 10, Hutt 3. Second Division This team had a good win over Berhampore, 32 to 9. Seven tries were scored, of which Dewhurst, the winger, scored three. This player must be in the running for promotion. Southen is another back showing good form. The forward pack is a very solid one. Greening, Skinner and Twoomey are all over 14 stone. Healey and Taplin are also fairly weighty and tall. Longton Barnes, Lewton, Parker and Turnbull are the smaller men, but none the less effective. The team is well led by Turnbull, who is a competent hooker and a reliable goal-kicker also. One of the most promising inside backs in the Club is Marshall, playing first first-eighth for the Fourth grade team. His defensive work is hard to fault, but his attacking play is not up to the same standard. Primary Schools Competition Fixtures for-this week are: Petone v. Eastbourne, at Eastbourne; Hutt teams v. Upper Hutt at Strand Park at 10.15 a.m. AVOBUIIN CLUB Results of Saturday's play were: Junior (2nd. Division):. Woburn 33, University 5. Third (Second Division); Woburn 6. Seatoun 0. .Fourth (first Division): Woburn 17, Onslow 3. Fourth. (2nd Division): Woburn 11, Wellington 3. Notes on Play The senior team enjoyed a wellearned rest on Saturday, having a bye. The previous few matches proved very strenuous and several players are nursing injuries, but. the team should be in good fettle next week. Juniors: This team won by an easy margin against University, who were playing two short. The backs were outstanding, both on attack and defence. The prime movers of scoring movements were usually J. Clout and Green, both of whom played a great game. The wings, Grindle and Sim, are determined runners and will give anything a go. The forwards, although outhooked in the set scrums, controlled their opponents in every phase of loose play, in which Brailey showed up to best advantage. Jarvie, Annear «and McDougall played well in the tight. Fourth (2nd Division)! This side is developing into a sound combination and with a little more strict training should reach peak form.
