NAME OF CITY

OBJECTION TO "LOWER" During a discussion at a meeting of the council of the Hutt Valley Chamber of Commerce Mr. H. V. Horlor: suggested the postponement of a scheme for publicising the district until they had got rid of the word "Lower" in the city's name, which,he said conveyed a wrong impression, especially overseas. Mr. C. E. Moran suggested that the matter of a change in the city's name be discussed at the next meeting of the executive. He felt strongly that the "Lower" should be dropped. He knew of letters being received from abroad with Hutt spelt with one "t", as though there were lower huts and upper huts.

It was decided to include the matter in the agenda for next meeting.
