HCTT AJJD ATHLETIC DRAW Making a first appearance at headquarters this season, Hutt, after a shaky start, settled d6wn and played very solid football and with a shade of "fuck thight have done better than share the points. It was a dour Struggle between the opposing packs, a little too willing at times, but firm control by referee Gilchrist kept matters reasonably well under control. Hutt enjoyed a territorial advantage taking the game as a whole. They had some fine opportunities of scoring and in three instances had themselves to blame for riot crossing the line. Paewai's long passes enabled Dclamorc to make fall'use of his superior speed, which often carried him through the defence. Great credit is due to the forwards who, although outweigh ted in the scrums, and outranged in the linesout, put everything they had into the play. Rogers stood out in a very good pack by reason of good lineOut work and sound play in the loose. Burns and. Deas did well in i line-out play also. The latter showed a good burst of speed in scoring the team's only try and was just beaten to the touch-down again" shortly after. Potter, Burns and Deas were the most consistent at following up, although the team was riot strong in this department, there being too much solo work. Duffy, P. Scullion, Corkin and Alexander gave good service. In the backs Delamore stood out on. attack. Potter was solid on defence and the same can be said for the three-quarter line. Paewai behind the scrum was obviously short dt match play but in spite of this showed up as a class player. Sewell came through a hard game with ! credit. 'A. McBAIN MEMORIAL SHIELD ; CONTEST NEXT SATURDAY Next Saturday will see the thirteenth game for the A. Mcßain | Memorial Shield, which was presented by Mr. H. E. Mcßain and Captain iT. E. The game is to be played on the ' local ground. The curtain-raiser will be between !Hutt and Petone second division teams. WOBURN CLtTfi NOTES Results of Saturday's play were: Senior A (Second Division) Miramar 27, Woburn 3. Junior (Second .Division), Woburn 32, Air Force (Shelly Bay) 5. Third (Second Division), Eastbourne 16, WoJburn 3. Fourth (First Division), Hutt 6, Woburn 0. Fourth (Second Division), Woburn 20, Paremata 3. Notes on Games Senior: Miramar had a well dei served win in this game and were superior to the Woburn team in the i forward and back divisions. The black forwards will have to concentrate on line-out play in future. This feature of the game was . noticeably absent last Saturday and consequently the Mi-ramar backs had a veritable feast of the ball. points came from a try by Grigg and this piece of play was one of the high-lights of the game, Several backs handled and Burton handed on to Grigg who clapped on pace and scored a fine try. Devihe led the forwards in a capable manner and noticeable in the loose were Grigg, McLaughlin and Hay. Dunn played a very fine game at full-back until he was injured, and in deputising for him Wood did a very capable job. Junior: The Junior team proved too good for Air Force, Shelly Bay, winning by 32—5. It was pleasing to notice that the team played as a : team and not as individuals. Green was the most prominent back both on attack and defence. Morgan is developing into a good full-back, but ! is still inclined to ran a bit too far before getting his kick in. The forwards, though a little on the light side, showed to good advantage and in the tight Liver, Annear, Laws, Wright and Livingston, were primihent lor the hard work put in. In the loose Brailey and Clout showed up weli. Tries were scored by Siinm (2), Keen, Ayres (2) and R. Clout (2). McArthur converted tnree tries and kicked a penalty.
