Zoning Areas
LIGHT INDUSTRIAL SITES • CITY COUNCIL DISCUSSION The Town Planning Committee recommended to the Lower Hutt Ci'y Council on Monday night that a section adjoining the light industrial area at the corner of High Street and Park Avenue be included in the light industrial area. Cr. Dudding said that the whole matter of re-zoning left .something to be desired. There were big stretches of residential areas without shops, especially in the Woburn area. There was something to be said for the "corner shop,' where the family shopping could oe done, thus relieving the burden on mothers. The Town Planner, Mr. R. D'.| Hill, said that in most- areas, when the planning schemes were carried out, shops would be within half a mile of houses. The position was serious in regard to industrial sites, which many returned servicemen were seeking. In 30 acres at Naenae there was hardly a section available. They must find cut the Government policy in regard to industrial sites in the housing areas. Three thousand houses, containing 12,000 people, had come into those areas yet no effort had been made to meet their industrial needs. On the motion of Cr. W. C. Gregory, seconded by Cr. H. F. Muir, the committee's recommendation was adopted.
