BIBLE SOCIETY
WESTERN HUTT BELMONT BRANCH Plans for celebrating this year the Centenary of the British and Foreign Bible Society in New Zealand were told by Mrs Violet W akelin to collectors and friends of the Western Hutt - Belmont branch at the annual meeting recently. A special printing of the New Testament for the children of the Dominion is being made and will be available soon at I/-.. The extra cost of this project will be met by the contributions of the Society's many friends and in this way the Society's aim of selling the Scriptures at a price the poorest can pay will be achieved. The revision of the Bible in Maori has also been undertaken and the appreciation of the Maori people has been shown in a large contribution to the cost of printing. Mrs. Wakelin, in an appeal for further support for the Society, stressed the dire need for the Bible in many lands, especially in Europe, where there is a real famine of the printed Word of God. Sacred solos were rendered by Mrs. Stewart and Miss It. Boyd. Miss S.. McKay gave a very helpful talk on God's response to women who put their faith into action. Mrs. Boyd was accorded a hearty vote of thanks for her hospitality. The president and secretary were especially thanked for their work during the past year. The following officers were reelected: —President, Mrs. J. T. M. Boyd; vice-presidents, Mesdaines Lopdell, Martin, Phillips and Presants; hon. secretary, Miss A. M. Presants.
