Winter Course
LECTURES OX COMMERCIAL SUBJECTS The Business Forum conducted by the public-speaking group of the Hutt Valley Junior Chamber of Commerce and Industry is to take the form of a. winter course for the next six months. A comprehensive series of lectures, covering all the essential aspects of business life and methods, is being arranged" Speakers of ability and practical experience will give the lectures, and the opportunity will be provided for questions and discussions. It is expected that the course will be very popular with the younger business and professional men of the "Valley, especially those aiming to start their own businesses or advance themselves in their employment. It has been decided not to confine the course to ex-servicemen, but a special invitation is extended to ex-servicemen to become members of the Chamber and participate in these activities. Present arrangements are for the Business Forum to meet each second Monday night. A recent lecture was on "Personal Management" by Mr. George Howcroft, of General Motors, following on "Advertising Principles and practice" by Mr. J. Ilott. The first lecture of the winter course will be by Mr. L. V. Phillips, secretary of the Hutt Valley Chamber of Commerce and Industry, on "Principles of Bookkeeping." This will be on Monday, April 15th. The following series of lectures will then be pursued:—Principles of buying and stock control; principles of salesmanship; sources of supply; income tax returns; proprietorship —individual, partnership, private, and public companies; management, organisation and planning; advertising and display; business letter writing; credit control; insurance; methods of distribution; consigning and transportation; labour legislation; personal efficiency.
