HUTT VALLEY HARRIERS

ANNUAL MEETING HELD The 24th annual meeting of the Hutt Valley Harrier Club, presided over by Mr. M Gough, president, was well attended. A cash balance was carried forward for the ensuing year. The election of officers resulted: Patron, Mr. E. Hartley; president, Mr. Mat Gough; vice-presidents, Messrs E. Caley, A. Cook, H. E. Combs, M.P., H Green, J. Goodall, B Lippitt, K F. London, H.. Mallowes, R. Millward, W. Nash, M.P., A Newlands, L. Price, A. Roadley, D. Robbie, J. Smith, G. Woods and H. Walker; secretary-treasurer, E. A. Petersen, 1 Elizabeth Street, Petone; club captain, R. Hammington; vice-captain, Murray Smith; committee, R. Blanford, J. Crosbie, R. Furness, Athol Roadley; delegates to Wellington Harrier Sub-committtee, M. Gough and E. A. Petersen; Wellington Centre N.Z.A.A.A, E. A. Petersen and A. M. Chandler; handicappers, A. Mack and N. W. Craig; publicity, N. W. Craig. A report of the interest being taken in cross-country running by primary and secondary schools in the Valley indicated that some consideration would have to be given to the term “colt” as distinct from “junior.” For this season it was decided to define a “colt” as a competitor under the age of 15 years on the day of the race. Another matter given unanimous approval concerned the war-time policy carried out by the club. It was decided to revert to pre-war conditions. This means that certificates of merit will be replaced by medallions and trophies, with entry fees for races 1/-. Inter-club Events. The proposed tours to Wanganui and Masterton this season will give the incoming committtee some concern in view of the already imposing list of inter-club events, but there is no doubt of the value of these exchanges of visits. 1 A matter left to the delegates to bring forward at the next harrier sub-committee meeting was the proposal endorsed at this meeting of reverting to pre-war conditions for the Dome Cup. An invitation is extended to intending members and colts to attend the opening run from the Petone West School on Saturday, March 30.
