Value of Town Planning
"Town planning and city beautifying are not new to New Zealand," said Mr. E. Hutt, superintendent of reserves at Lower Hutt, in a paper read at a conference in the South Island recently. "There is evidence in some of our cities to-day of the remarkable foresight of the pioneers. The heritage of magnificent trees handed doWn to the city of Christchurch by past generations should be an inspiration to all of us to make similar provision for future generations. An attractive city cannot be produced overnight; it is the result of consistent and energetic effort over a period of years." Queens lor Petone Carnival. The following queens have been selected for the carnival to be held at Easter on behalf of the Petone War Memorial Community Centre: Miss Linda Noble, representing the retailers; Miss Joan Avison, manufacturers; Miss Val Simpson, citizens. Eligible lor Rehabilitation. The Rehabilitation Board has decided that New Zealand women who were members of the Air Transport Auxiliary which ferried planes across the Atlantic are eligible for all forms of rehabilitation assistance available to ex-servicewomen who have served overseas. The Minister of Rehabilitation, Mr. Skinner, commented that the Air Transport Auxiliary was a voluntary organisation that did exactly the same work as certain Air Force units.
