Hutt River Board
MEETING IN LOWER HUTT PENALTY FOR UNPAID RATES The last meeting of the Hutt River Board was attended by Messrs F. S. Hewer (chairman), G. S. Young and Dr. Dudley, Mr. C. Halford (clerk), and Mr. H. Sladden (engineer) were also present. Regarding 'the construction of a stopbank in the housing area in Taita and the proposed raising of the level of the stopbank in other localities, it was stated that the Commissioner of Works will make a statement on priority of works shortly. A superannuation scheme for the Board's staff was considered. The secretary, who had consulted the National Provident Fund, was instructed to make further inquiries and report.
The City Council's application for a renewal of the lease of portion of Gear Island was approved.
The City Corporation supplied a preliminary estimate 'of the cost of the proposed new Hutt pipe bridge. A donation of £B/8/- was made to the Wellington Free Ambulance Association.
An application by the Hutt Motor Cycle Club for permission to lease land in Taita for the construction of a cinder track was refused, it being stated that the whole of the land will probably be taken over by the Housing Department. It was decided to notify the public that, a penalty >of ten per cent will.be added to rates remaining unpaid after March 31.
