PATRIOTIC SUB-COMMITTEE
FIGHTING FRENCH A pleasant function was held recently in the Services Club Rooms when the Patriotic Sub-committee heltl its last meeting. All members were present, also Mesdames Bendall and E. Brown from Wellington. Mrs J. W Andrews paid tribute to the work of the joint secretaries Mesdames C. W. Clark and J. de Filippi, the successive treasurers Misses C. Kennedy and Mrs J. E Salmon, also to the spinners and knitters who had produced the garments. Mrs. de Filippi referred to the presidents valuable support and to the mayor's assistance who had procured and brought into his office many bundles of wool from the Patriotic Board ifor the committee's use. Mrs. Andrews was presented with a spray of orchids by' Mrs. Salmon's small son on behalf of the members, and Mesdames de Filippi and Clark received a dainty bouquet each from Mrs Andrews. It was announced that up to date 174 lbs of wool had been received from the Patriotic Board as a gift to the Fighting French. From the wool 66 6 garments had been knitted with a few more articles to come in. From the wool bought by" the com mittee and spun wool, 384 garments had been knitted. In addition 419 children's articles had been done, making a total of 1369 garments. Wool is still available to knitters who wish to continue their good work, and parcels to the French Red Cross will be forwarded accordingly, as there is still urgent need, of clothing in France. Morning tea .was offered ,by Mrs Andrews to guests and members and brought to a happy and successful end the activities of the Patriotic Sub-committee of Lower Hutt.
