FARM TRAINEES
HOUSE ALLOWANCE AND FURNITURE REMOVALS REHABILITATION AID Because of the difficulty being exr perienced- in some districts in airanging training for married ex-ser-vicemen on farms where suitable accommodation for wives and families is available, the Rehabilitation Board has decided to consider applications for house allowances from ex-servicemen i-n such circumstances. The board has also reviewed its policy regarding furniture removals by married farm trainees in view of the necessity in some cases for more than one removal. Besides paying for the first shift, the board will now meet the expense of others where thought necessary and where they have taken place as a direct result of 'training
It was decided that whenever possible 1 married ex-servicemen approved for training with private farmers should be placed on properties where "married accommodation" was available. Where this is not possible, irrespective of whether the trainee leaves his original home or transfers nearer to his place of training, the board will now consider on its merits an application for a weekly house allowance to enable the trainee to maintain his city or other residence. The -maximum allowance is to be £1/10/- a week, the actual amount paid being the difference between 10/- a week and the amount the trainee has to lmd in rent or weekly payments (principal and interest) on a mortgage. For example, if a trainee is not provided with married accommodation by his employer and maintains a home elsewhere for which he pays £2/5/- a week rent, the board will consider paying the maximum allowance of £1/10/- a week. If on the other hand, he pays £1/10/- a weekhouse rent, the Board will consider paying an allowance ,of £1 a week. Where suitable married accommodation. is provided an employer may deduct ten shillings a week from the trainees wages Neither house allowances nor furniture removal expenses will be paid to ex-sej-vicmen taking courses at agricultural colleges.
