CAMPAIGN FOR FUNDS
HUTT VALLEY Y.M.C.A. £3,000 REQUIRED A campaign for funds to provide improved facilities for the Y.M.C.A. in Hutt Valley has been launched. Since its inception in the warehouses of London many years a£o the Y.M.C.A. has extended its good work to almost every land. Under the leadership and inspiration of the late George Williams, new standards of adult education, Physical development, Christian citizenship and world brotherhood have been set. The same motives are the force behind the local Y.M.C.A., and this effort which is essentially a peoples' affair, essentially a citizen's centre for recreation -and social intercourse, is deserving of active support and interest. In the past the Hutt Valley; Y.M.C.A. has set a high standard in its physical welfare programme and that this standard is appreciated is evidenced by the increasing demand for Y.M.C.A. facilities; indeed so great is the pressure that Y.M.C.A. in the Valley must expand its present buildings in Cuba Street and Birch Street, and make provision for further buildings to house its programme of interesting activities for the full development of the mind body, and spirit, of each member. It is of interest to note that in the past year the permanent member ship v as been built up to over 1200, and that in 484 gym. classes no fewer than an aggregate number of 15,500 members were given expert gym instruction. In every way Y.M.C.A. is making a worthwhile effort to occupy the leisure of the youth in this Valley in healthy recreation and social development. The Y.M.C.A. is helping to stem the tide of purposeless living, and idle companionship, which anti-social habits always bring with them the attendant evils of delinquency and failure. In order to maintain its service to this community, and to meet the increasing demand for its facilities, Y.M.C.A. is commencing a campaign to raise £3000, and is looking to the citizens of this Valley for their generous support, to make it possible for them to continue to guide the youth of today into the right channels for good citizenship tomorrow.
